Jackie, joined by the Bay Area's top musicians, delivers 10 of Latin America's most cherished love songs, featuring 3 classics with 14 time Grammy Award winner Paquito D'Rivera

"I heard Herbie Hancock say that Jazz is something very difficult to describe, but very easy to recognize, and Jackie Ryan is that kind of vocalist that anything she sings, the spirit of Jazz comes out, and in its most elegant and creative form."
-- Paquito D'Rivera

Paquito is right! Whether Jackie Ryan is singing in English, Spanish, Portuguese or scatting vocalese, it's all the spirit of Jazz! On this excursion, "Recuerdos De Mi Madre (Memories of my Mother)", the internationally acclaimed Jazz vocalist takes us on a beautiful nostalgic journey weaving the Latin songs she learned with her mother as a child.

From the pens of great Mexican, Cuban and Latin American composers, Jackie embraces these themes with heartfelt passion and performs them through a Latin Jazz lens, transcending them into the 21st century with inspired fervor, evoking their poetic and melodic beauty with her inimitable phrasing and crystalline voice.

"This music has lived within me since I was very young," explains Jackie. "This was the first music I heard in my home, and I believe my mother's love of music, and her own happy singing, are what inspired me to become a singer. I hope that listeners will feel some of the joy and warmth that I felt when I first heard this music with my sweet mother. For me, her spirit will always live on in the songs she sang and loved to play."

-- from the Liner notes by JESSE "CHUY" VARELA, Music Director of San Francisco Bay Area's KCSM Jazz 91, host of the Latin Jazz show, contributing reviewer to Latin Beat Magazine, NY Latino, JazzTimes, and the San Francisco Chronicle.

"Contralto impecable... rango imponente.

From Budapest:

I was moved listening to Jackie Ryan's album interpreted with wonderful passion. The American singer of Mexican origin dedicated her latest album to her mother, whom she lost at an early age, and to the songs that her mother sang to her when she was a child.

The album is not a melancholy lament. On the contrary: warmth and joie de vivre radiate through Ryan's elegant vocals. Sung in Spanish, the songs are straight "del corazon", meaning from the heart! Through it, we can notice in our own lives: there is no bad that we want to recall after the loss of a loved one, we really only remember the beautiful.... Every song on the album is a hit... Dear Jackie Ryan! Thank you for reminding us that our mothers and fathers live forever in our hearts!
